How many gashapon turns to get the one you want?

In a 5-design machine, the average fan needs 5 turns to get one design they pick, and 11 turns to get all 5. At ¥400 a turn, that full set costs about ¥4,400.

Count them on the machine's display.

In 5 turns, your chance of getting the design you want is 67%.

Bandai doesn't publish the odds

Gashapon machines show every design, but not how likely each one is. This calculator treats every design as equally likely, so use its answers as a guide.

Some designs may really be scarcer. Gachive, a capsule toy shop, says makers "often vary how many of each design they produce." If a machine has a secret, expect it to take longer than the numbers above.

Set a coin limit before you start

At ¥300 to ¥500 a turn, it's easy to keep going. One visitor to Japan wrote, "I had to get money out so I could get a few more gacha before heading home."

If you want one design badly, a complete set from a second-hand shop can cost less than chasing it. OneMall found finished sets in Japan listed at or below the per-capsule price.
